Note: This is what might be termed an upgraded reseed. I originally uploaded this in 2010 from a DVD recorder recording. This is from a DVB-S .ts file capture, chaptered and menued. I have had the .ts files on hard drive since early 2011 in my folder(s) of things to do something with!
The original files were removed from the tracker on March 11th 2011(see below) so there are probably some people who would still like this. There have been several versions of this for sale, all of them unofficial bootlegs (the vast majority my original capture)!. To the best of my knowledge none of the material has been officially released either as a whole or as part of a compliation. This was part of TP’s tour to the UK promoting the “Damn The Torpedoes” album.
Rock Goes To College was a BBC series that ran between 1978 and 1981 on British television. A variety of up-coming rock oriented bands were showcased live from small venues and broadcast simultaneously on television and radio during a 40-50 minute live performance.
Concert Venues:
The venues were small University, Polytechnic or College halls holding a few thousand persons which gave a more intimate atmosphere than larger venues and often tickets were given to the Students’ Union to distribute for free (to ensure that the concert halls were full) – effectively an invited audience. The bands chosen were also bands which did not have a mainstream following at that time although many went on to be very successful.
Pete Drummond (BBC DJ) introduced the band just before “Even The Losers” for the television audience. I have not set this intro as a separate track, neither did I set the band intros as separate as Tom had already introduced Mike Campbell then later introduced Benmont, Ron and Stanley (between Breakdown and American Girl for the purists).Bobby Valentino intriduced before Stories We Could Tell.
Innovation:
The original broadcasts were transmitted on television as well as Sight and Sound in Concert; a BBC initiative to provide simultaneous pictures on BBC2 and stereo radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 1 (as stereo television broadcasts and receivers did not exist at the time). It allowed rock enthusiasts to enjoy the event with an improved sound quality.
