Hello again music lovers.. here’s a pretty darn good capture of Mike Campbell’s recent set here in NC. I was standing about 15 feet from the stage on the GA floor, and you will hear a lot of chatter from the crowd throughout, but it’s mostly only noticeable between songs. For whatever reason, people still feel compelled to yell out song suggestions, perhaps because they only know a few Tom Petty songs so I guess it feels “cool” to shout out song titles? Hell, I don’t know. Well as Mike himself sings “f*ck that guy”…
Anyway, Mike Campbell just loves to play his guitars and a good time was had by all. It was interesting seeing Mike out front leading the band, but he seems to be enjoying himself after all these gigs/years.
I also enjoyed the short opening set by Alan Youngblood Hart, but truthfully, the crowd was so insanely loud that I was embarrassed. They just talked – and loudly – throughout his entire five-song set so that was a bummer.
Anyway, this was an enjoyable evening of music in a really cool venue about an hour from my home in Chapel Hill. I’m glad that Mike is still out there keeping the rock n roll alive. I’ve been listening to this some driving around, and if you hit it with an equalizer, it sounds pretty darn good IMHO. Do y’all still use an equalizer? I’m lucky that the streaming app I use to listen to my music (AVSub) has a built-in EQ and it really helps improve the sound of an audience capture.
Also included a few photos from the gig as well.
